The ten pieces in my wardrobe that I wear the most

You know those moments when you just think ‘what the hell am I going to wear today?’. Yes well I’ve had quite a few of those recently, so I thought it might be useful if I shared with you the trusty pieces in my wardrobe that come to my rescue time and time again. Sort of like an old friend rushing to your aid in a time of (first world) crisis, these guys can be relied upon to salvage even the trickiest of sartorial dilemmas.

Below are some snaps from my wardrobe with links to either the exact same piece or something very similar.

Above: Black Slouchy Blazer

I got this one from Asos years ago and I have worn it to death. It kind of looks like silk but is in fact some sort of polyester mix. Light weight with just the right amount of slouch it goes with absolutely everything.

Free People Blazer, £118 . Mango Structured crepe blazer, £69.99

White Victoriana Blouse

I have so many of these it’s embarrassing. If I only buy one a year I’m doing really well. This is one of my latest finds from Urban Outfitters.

UO Victoriana Voile Blouse, £52 . Isabel Marant Etoilé Broderie-anglais cotton blouse, £250

Blue Jeans

An obvious choice yes, but tricky to find just the right pair. These are my current favourites from Arket with no stretch and a slightly cropped straight leg.

Arket regular rinsed cropped jeans, £59 . Toteme Original Straight leg jeans, £155

Men’s Cashmere Jumpers

You can never have enough men’s jumpers in your life. I like to stockpile them in grey, navy, black and oatmeal. Look out for the one in the La Redoute sale below…

Boden cashmere crew neck jumper, £130 . La Redoute crew neck cashmere jumper, £99 (currently everything on the site has 40% with code 9504)

Vintage Army Jacket

This was bought in a vintage store in France on holiday about ten years ago. It gives even the plainest outfit an edge and I must admit in my new middle aged era that I do find all the zips and pockets terribly useful.

Cream Wide Leg Cropped Jeans

These have been a surprise hit in my wardrobe over the past year. I wore them all the time in the winter with black boots and a black cashmere jumper. Now we’re heading into summer I’m enjoying wearing them with a camisole or my Victorian lady blouses.

& Other Stories Mid Rise Jeans, £59 .

Tan Mid Heel Shoes

A great friend was kind enough to buy me a pair of these in the sample sale and they have been much admired ever since. My actual pair are now far too scruffy to photograph so here’s them looking all shiny and new.  Such is my love for these that I’m saving for a new pair.

Gray Matters ‘Mildred’ block leather heel shoes, £410

Black trousers

Essentially a ripoff Marant situation these are another unexpected best buy. Highly practical with an elasticated waist and wipe down fabric, I wear them with trainers in the daytime and black boots or sandals in the evening.

Mango adjustable waist trousers, £35.99 . Asos Design tapered leather look trousers, £30

Chanel Handbag

My late grandmother leaft me a bit of money when she died and I decided to invest in a Chanel bag. I had loved them ever since I was a teenager and given that she was pretty damn chic herself I felt she would highly approve of my purchase. Less frivolous than it may seem, Chanel along with Hermes are the top bags to invest in. I’m planning on giving it to Aurelie and clearly will need to get another for Clementine 😉

Gold Sandals

You may think gold sandals are a bit 1980’s mum but I wear these all the time. They look great with jeans or a dress in the evening. Paint your toes red for an added bit of glamour.

Michel Vivien Braided strap sandals, £584 . Rouje Liz sandals, £185
